I'm a happy bunny

Post  adi on Thu Jan 20, 2011 9:32 pm

Well the drive to Wisbech and back went well, I was dreading the 1st long drive since doing the engine job. Anyways I was VERY impressed with how well it did on fuel, used £15 of juice and on the way there I got this Smile

Then on the way back I got this Very Happy

This is exactly why I chose to fit a digifant 8v to it, as all the otheres I've had have been an excellent compromise between performance and fuel economy, especially for an engine of this age. So as far as the conversion is concerned, mission acomplished! Oh and my new brakes are nicely bedding in too Cool

Very good going, have to admit I was doing around 50mph pretty much the whole way with a few short blasts of overtaking to get it that high! On the way back the traffic was slow, doing 45mph on most stretches of road in 5th, I was hoping to hit the magic 50mpg but it never happened! I'm sure with your weight on the breaker bar they'l be tight enough. I have faith! Must do them top mounts soon though

Did you get it done? I'm maybe doing someones clutch to earn a bit of cash, so when I've got some spare I'm gonna get a sleeve from Allwoods or something and sort it properly, my main concern is that it won't seperate again like it did before! In other good news today I got talking to a bloke down the road from me and he mentioned he has a gasless welder thats been sat in his shed for 2 years, he said I can have it for £30 if it still works! So I'm having that to earn a few quid on the side Cool

Yea it worked out pretty damn close to what it reads. I've only had 2 K-jet mk2s, but can't really comment on the mpg's cuz one was a 1.9 TSR lump and the other was a 16v with ABF cams and a full jetex exhaust. I had a passat gt estate once with the same engine as mine and my personal best in that was 48mpg, and that was as accurate as mine is. Really wanted to beat that today and I'm glad I did, and so it should seeing as the passat estate is a lardy motor

Kai, I didn't get the wheels today, went to Wisbech to get cute puppy Max Very Happy

Like I said, its pretty damn accurate to my workings out. My K-jet 1.9 TSR was appalling on fuel but then I did abuse it, had some very very addictive torque! But I've heard K-jets aren't as good on fuel as digifants, but you have to remember digifant is ECU controlled fuelling, so it should be better than a K-jet. And the secret to such good mpgs is the way you drive. No late braking, labouring the engine, unneccessary gearchanges, and keeping it at a steady speed. On the way back most of it was in 5th at around 45mph as I was behind quite a few cars in the rain. On the way there I got the 1st figure doing around 55mph most of the way there with the odd blast past the old folks doing 30mph in a 60 Laughing
