Chewwed up Locking wheel nuts

Post  jonny54 on Tue Mar 01, 2011 4:46 pm

A few days ago i got a flat. The tyres are pretty expensive and im tight for cash so i started the menotinous task of taking my alloys off and putting steelys on ( in the rain)

When i got to the third wheel, the locking nut adapter slipped and now it wont grip against the nut. Ive been to a couple of garages who have all tried to remove it but failed, and the only option seems to be to weld on a peice of metal or a nut to the locking nut, and get it off that way.

Im looking at a 2hour + labour charge they said plus the probability that its going to damage my RS6 alloys. Has anyone had any experience with this or know anywhere that will sort me out for less? They need to come off as i have service and mot booked in 14 days

Welding it up shouldnt damage your wheel, dont let a garage weld it up- take it to a fabricator with nut in hand. They will charge you a quid if that Very Happy

Thanks for all your advice. Finally got them out today, had to hack appart a nineteen socket to fit and then hit it lots with a hammer until it locked. All the garages were to scared to mark up my wheels, but they arent that bad they are a little gouged up in the bolt holes but its all good.

running steelys at the moment though, looks like a grandad car. its lowered 80mm at back and and 30 at front and it really shows with these smaller wheels. Desperatly need some more coilovers, sadly a blew the seals on my last pair Sad damn potholes

Good work dude, just a word of advice if you happen to do it again buy an impact socket and hammer it on. For some reason they seem to work alot better than a standard socket Very Happy
